Project planning and origination

Our initial goals were to figure out the type of songs we wanted to do. The first song we picked was wildflower which we ripped back a decided to not have the backing vocals and just have one singer and sing the main parts. And then the second song was high and dry which we also stripped back and only had acoustic guitar, bass and a cajon. We achieved this by having dedicated time with each band to talk through what bits we wanted to scrap and what bits we wanted to keep and collaboratively came to our decision.

Each of the bands managed to effectively manage time and meet the deadlines we all worked together on different dedicated days to learn all our separate parts individually and then came together to fit in each part to make it seamless and clean transitions.

The changes I made was at first, I was in a different band doing breed and stubborn love I was let down by the singer for stubborn love and she wasn’t in for rehearsals, so they were unreliable and had to drop the song. I also scrapped breed as our band wasn’t the only one doing the song so we decided all together to scrap it so there weren’t multiple bands playing one song.

The way we kept track of the progress throughout the project was by videoing and taking pictures of our own individual rehearsal and collaborative rehearsal and uploading them onto wix in the journal section and annotate each video and picture so that we could see our progress.

Rehearsal process and development

The way I used rehearsal time to improve our performance was by structuring set times to talk over what went well and what went not so well then setting structured time to rehears each part of the song.

When I got feedback, I took time to think about it and then work on it in my own time. Some of the feedback I got was I was strumming the guitar too fast for wildflower, and I wasn’t hitting the right stabs for the vocals to keep it in time.

The way I kept focused and productive during the rehearsals is by setting the whole band goals so that we knew when we went in what we would be doing and how to complete it and then when we came out of rehearsals, we felt good as we had accomplished something.

Our performance developed quite quickly over time the reason behind this was because we stayed focused and managed to communicate well between the band members to effectively progress through the songs and job roles.

Performance evaluation

I feel that the final performance over all was perfect, but our set could have been better as during our second song our singer forgot which bit we were on, so I fumbled and messed up and stopped. To recover from that though I just played the last few chords of the song so we could finish accordingly.

The things that went well during our performance was the band communication we all looked at each other so we knew when to stop and start and I personally looked at the body language of the other members to see what they were doing and why. this went well as we communicated before the show to decided how we were going to work together.

There were challenges throughout including in our second song I stopped as the singer forgot to do the bridge of the song and cut straight to the end which meant I had to compose myself and restart the song from the end.

In wildflower I had to adapt because I ended up going to fast so I messed up the timing and forgot the chord we were on so I had to catch myself and start on the next chord, so the audience did not know that I had messed up and got it wrong.

Live event organisation and teamwork

The role I played in the performance was Roddie. This meant I was one of the first people in the theatre from the morning so we could set up which included me and some others moving the drum risers into the correct places, bringing and setting up the drum kits and brining in the monitors and setting them up and plugging it all in.

I believe I communicated amazingly with my other band members during the sets and of stage including in wildflower were me and the drummer looked at each other so we could finish on the same stab to create a build up before the end.

In my opinion there wasn’t ay challenges during the performance as we all work quite well together, and all get along and know how each of us work and all have patience and kindness towards each other.

Teamwork contributed to the success of the show and this was because we all worked collaboratively as we all had the same end goal which was to have fun and make all of us proud teamwork also helped when we all shared acoustic guitars as one of them broke, so we kept swapping to each other after each song. And helped each other bring out the props and clean up afterwords.

Live production and technical skills

The technical elements I was involved in was setting up and sound checking the equipment which included setting up the drum Risser and placing the drums correctly placing the drums and monitors and the wiring and micing everything up.

These technical elements support the performance as everything is safely weird up and mic’d up and the sound check makes sure everything is working correctly if this was not done then the performance would have ended up being a disaster as anything could go wrong with the equipment

Yes, there were some technical difficulties during the sound check as some of the cables for the mics and drums were plugged into the snake in the wrong numbers, so we had to reorganise the cables into the correct numbered input. Also, on one of the drums we had the wrong mic for the drum kit, so we had to get a different mic for the kick. The overhead mics also stopped working so we had them for show instead of recoding.

I was quite confident as my role as a Roddie as we all worked collaboratively to make it possible for the show to happen, so I wasn’t alone in setting up. We also had the teachers there to make sure things went smoothly and to teach us how to set up by ourselves for the show.

Reflection and future development

The thing I am most proud of for this project is stepping out of my comfort zone and jumping headfirst into working as a team with people I would have never been able to work with at the beginning of the year. I’m also proud of being able to set up a show and play Infront of over a hundred people in a confined venue with my classmates.

If I repeated this project I would choses different genres so I could test my ability as a guitarist and push my self even further out of my comfort zone. I would also play in more songs as I was only in two this time were if I did the project again, I would do a few more and work harder to feel more confident when playing.

The skills I develop and improved during this process is learning to play full bar chords instead of power chords, improving my hammer On’s and knowing how to go from hammer on back to full chords another thing I improved on was learning how to set up a show.

This experience will inform me and help me in future performances because I now know how to overcome my performance anxiety and how to present myself Infront of the audience and feel confident to set up and perform at a show.
