Task 5: Evaluation

My initial goals were to confidently perform as a frontman and apply my skills and techniques to as many different styles of music as possible. I also was quite eager to sing at least a couple songs on this show as I had never had much of an opportunity to do so over the course of the year.

I feel I managed my time quite well and had plenty of time to rehearse all the songs I wanted to perform effectively and comfortably, whether this was in independent rehearsal or amongst my peers.

There were initially some different songs that we had discussed performing such as Famous Last Words or Frank which were either rehearsed a few times and never taken further due to time constraints or times where we felt the song wasn't working very well in that moment, or other songs such as Ocean Eyes or Basket Case which we had only discussed late into the process of working on our FMP which actually ended up going down as some of the best songs on the night of our performance.

I logged everything that I had rehearsed onto my wix website and studied each video very carefully and kept my own personal diary on how each rehearsal was going and how I was feeling about each song and how they could be improved going forward, I felt this was effective and that it allowed me to make good progress and be aware of how far we had come with each song and what needed to be worked on.

We spent lots of time in rehearsal breaking down each individual part of the song we were rehearsing at that time and were effective and productive in our doing so.

Feedback was usually very positive as we were working hard and were aware of where we needed to improve different parts for our performance.

We documented and kept track of every little detail that we worked on during rehearsal which allowed us to keep on track and how and what we could improve in our performance.

The performance developed well over time and this is very clear in each of our rehearsal videos, we were aware of what worked and what didn't, and good communication allowed us to work as a tightly knit unit.

I am extremely pleased with how the final performance went, I thought that each and every song sounded well rehearsed and that it has really shown our growth throughout the course of the year. On a personal level, I'm really happy with my own performance, I thought that my guitar work on the night sounded as though it had purpose and wasn't unnecessary at any point, I'm also pretty happy with a good chunk of my vocals as well as my stage presence and performance elements during the show. And as a collective, I am very proud of each and every person involved in putting together this show, I thought we all did extremely well in putting together this show and in our performances, collectively and individually.

I think that all our transitions between songs were all top notch, especially Whatever You Want leading into Moonage Daydream, I am especially proud of how the first two songs sounded generally, I personally thought they were some of the highlights of the night, and that they sounded really well rehearsed, this is all credit to the band that I worked with on these songs as our communication skills and performances were completely on top of their game. I think each and every song went really well, acoustic songs such as No Time To Die had great dynamics and performances, and this played off well alongside songs such as Basket Case which were really tight and full of adrenaline. I'm also very happy with the sound on the night, as well as my own guitar tone, I thought I had good control over my own pedal board and that I used to effectively and that each sound I had served each song I performed.

I wouldn't say there were actually any problems at all during the performance itself except for maybe a couple of moments where we got caught up in the song and the adrenaline of the performance and individually messed up parts of the songs, this can be heard in parts of Brianstorm, I Don't Wanna Be Me, or even Breed, but in each case example we were able to catch up really well and make up for individual mistakes by simply making eyes and locking in with the rhythm or tempo or whatever the issue may have been. I believe that the sound on the night was really reliable and that I had no problems with gear or not being able to hear myself, transitions went smooth and on the whole I think the show went swimmingly well.

Throughout the show a few mistakes were made by different individuals, myself included, but through good onstage communication, we were able to pick up and keep on track with where we were in the song.

My role as a roadie allowed me to be hands on with all of the gear on the day of the show, and I also took part in various meetings discussing different parts of how the show would go.

I think we all communicated with each other really well across the entire FMP and â€‹

I don't think we had any problems at all in terms of teamwork in the slightest, at least not in the songs I was involved in. In each band or project I was involved in, we all worked together really well and there was no ego or arguing at all, we all were aware of what we needed to achieve and we cracked on with it very professionally.

I think that we all worked really well together throughout the course of the FMP, whether in rehearsal or in meetings or even outside of college, we all had a good idea of how we wanted the show to run and I think we fulfilled that entirely.

I personally found myself working with many different people and on many different kinds of music, and I feel that on every different song I rehearsed and worked on with my peers, that we all worked together really well to produce the best possible performance we could give. We had a really good family spirit when working on the FMP and I'm really honoured to have worked with these individuals, even in terms of setting up on the day of the show, we all mucked in and worked together very well.

I was directly involved in setting up many different elements of gear as I was assigned the role of roadie, this included setting up guitar amps, cables, and microphone stands, I also personally set up my own pedalboard which I plugged through to the Line 6 stomp which fed into the mixing board.

I played a good part in setting up on the day and made myself useful in helping with all the work I could on the day of the show, I spent a good amount of time making sure my pedalboard was running well, which ended up being crucial as I was performing on many different songs throughout the night.

The only technical difficulty as such that comes to mind was the lack of kick drum on the first couple songs, but this issue was resolved fairly quickly as Josh came to the rescue near the start of I Don't Wanna Be Me, other than I do remember that Lily's bass was not working at the start of Ocean Eyes, this issue was also resolved by Josh.

I am really proud of a different number of things about this performance, whether that be my own fronting of different bands, or perhaps the way I adapted myself to many different kinds of music or performance. I was also very proud of how Moonage Daydream came together on a personal note, this is simply because I've been very eager to perform a Bowie song and I'm very glad it came together really well. I'm also proud of us all and how we've all bonded so well over the course of the year and how we all came together for our FMP and worked so hard and performed at such a good standard.

I'm not really too sure as to what I'd change if I was to start this project over again, as previously stated, I'm really happy with how everything went on the night of our performance, and I wouldn't change a single person I've worked with or moment spent together, these people are really great friends of mine and I think we all worked really well and that we all performed at a really high level.

I think my ability as a frontman has increased a lot, as well as certain aspects of my guitar playing have improved a lot, and these things can be said for many different individuals on the course. I feel that over the course of the last couple months, I have really excelled as a guitar player, whether this be as a lead player or even just my techniques and usage of my guitar, I feel like I've really come far and that I've become a very complete player. I also think my on-stage communication skills have gotten stronger and that I've become quite the confident frontman, I feel very comfortable on stage performing, whether that be as a vocalist or a guitarist.

I think this experience has really given me a good idea of any future projects or bands I would like to work with or be a part of, I really enjoyed fronting a band, and I really enjoyed having the opportunity to perform lead vocals, I would also say that there are many individuals within the group that I would be honoured to work with again, as the relationships I have built within the class are really healthy and we all work together really well.
